Amazon.com Review "Softly he brushed my cheek, then held my face between his marble hands. 'Be very still,' he whispered, as if I wasn't already frozen. Slowly, never moving his eyes from mine, he leaned toward me. Then abruptly, but very gently, he rested his cold cheek against the hollow at the base of my throat." p As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. In iTwilight/i, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because--he's a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship./pp Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. She begins with a familiar YA premise (the new kid in school), and lulls us into thinking this will be just another realistic young adult novel. Bella has come to the small town of Forks on the gloomy Olympic Peninsula to be with her father. At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to renounce human prey. For Edward's sake they welcome Bella, but when a roving group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst. The precision and delicacy of Meyer's writing lifts this wonderful novel beyond the limitations of the horror genre to a place among the best of YA fiction. What are you watching now that those shows are off the air?br bA:/b I have never seen an entire episode of iBuffy/i or iAngel/i. While I was writing iTwilight/i, I let my older sister read along chapter by chapter. She's a huge Buffy fan and she kept trying to get me to watch, but I was afraid it would mess up my vision of the vampire world so I never did.p I don't have a ton of time for TV, and my kids get rowdy when I have on "mommy shows," but I do have a secret fondness for reality shows (the good ones, at least in my opinion). I always TiVo iSurvivor/i, iThe Amazing Race/i, and iAmerica's Next Top Model/i.brbr bQ:/b What inspired you to write iTwilight/i? Is this the beginning of a series? Why write for teens?br bA:/b iTwilight/i was inspired by a very vivid dream, which is fairly faithfully transcribed as chapter thirteen of the book. There are sequels on the way--I'm hard at work editing book two (tentatively titled iNew Moon/i) right now, and book three is waiting in line for its turn.br I didn't mean to write for teens--I didn't mean to write for anyone but myself, so I had an audience of one twenty-nine year old (and later one thirty-one year old when my sister started reading). I think the reason that I ended up with a book for teens is because high school is such a compelling time period--it gives you some of your worst scars and some of your most exhilarating memories. It's a fascinating place: old enough to feel truly adult, old enough to make decisions that affect the rest of your life, old enough to fall in love, yet, at the same time too young (in most cases) to be free to make a lot of those decisions without someone else's approval. There's a lot of scope for a novel in that.brbr bQ:/b What is your favorite vampire story? Fave vampire movie?br bA:/b I guess my favorite vampire story would be iThe Vampire Lestat/i, by Anne Rice, simply because it's one of the only ones I've ever read. I keep meaning to pick up Bram Stoker's iDracula/i, because I get asked this question so often and I should probably start with the classics, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Again, I'm afraid to read other vampire books now, for fear of finding things either too similar, or too different from my own vampire world./pp Ack! I can't even answer the movie question. I can't remember ever seeing a single vampire movie, outside of clips from Bela Lugosi movies on TV. I don't like true horror movies--my favorite scary movies are all Hitchcock's.brbr bQ:/b What other young adult authors do you read?br bA:/b My favorite young adult author is L.M. Montgomery I also enjoy J.K. Rowling (but who doesn't?), and Ann Brashares. As a teen, I skipped straight to adult books (lots of sci-fi and Jane Austen), so I'm rediscovering the world of teen literature now.brbr/p hr class="bucketDivider" noshade="noshade" size="1" p clear="all" span class="h1"strongStephenie Meyer's List of Books You Should Read/strong/span table border="0" cellpadding="4" width="90%" cellspacing="4"p p tr class="tiny" align="center" valign="top" td img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0553609416.01.SWATCHZZ.jpg" border="0"brIAnne of Green Gables/I/tdp td img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0743477111.01.SWATCHZZ.jpg" border="0"brIRomeo and Juliet/I/tdp td img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0345456335.01.SWATCHZZ.jpg" border="0"brIDragonflight/I/td td img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0060935464.01.SWATCHZZ.jpg" border="0"brITo Kill a Mockingbird/I/td p td img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0345348036.01.SWATCHZZ.jpg" border="0"brIThe Princess Bride/I/td p /tr /tablebr See more recommendations from Stephenie Meyerbr/p hr class="bucketDivider" noshade="noshade" size="1" p clear="all"brspan class="h1"strongQA with Stephanie Meyer/strong/spanbr /pp clear="left"bQ:/b What book has had the most significant impact on your life?brbA:/b The book with the most significant impact on my life is iThe Book of Mormon/i. It's harder to give myself just one movie, but the one I watch most frequently is iSense and Sensibility/i--the one with the screenplay by Emma Thompson. One book is impossible. I'd have to have iPride and Prejudice/i, but I couldn't live without something by Orson Scott Card and a nice, thick Maeve Binchy, too.brbrbQ:/b What is the worst lie you've ever told?brbA:/b My lies are all very, very boring: "No, you really look great in hot pink!" "My children only watch one hour of TV a day." "I didn't eat the last Swiss Cake Roll--it must have been one of the kids." That's the best I've got.brbrbQ:/b Describe the perfect writing environment.brbA:/b It's late at night and the house is silent, but I'm still (miraculously) full of energy. I have my headphones in and I'm listened to a mix of Muse, Coldplay, Travis, My Chemical Romance, and The All-American Rejects. Beside me is a fabulous, and yet mysteriously low in calorie, cheesecake....brbrbQ:/b If you could write your own epitaph, what would it say?brbA:/b I'd like it to say that I really tried at the important things. I was never perfect at any of them, but I honestly tried to be a great mom, a loving wife, a good daughter, and a true friend. Under that, I'd want a list of my favorite iSimpsons/i quotes.brbrbQ:/b Who is the one person living or dead that you would like to have dinner with?brbA:/b I'd love to have a chance to talk to Orson Scott Card--I have a million questions for him. Mostly things like, "How do you come up with this stuff?!" But, if he wasn't available, I'd settle for Matthew Bellamy (lead singer of Muse).brbrbQ:/b If you could have one superpower, what would it be?brbA:/b I'd want something offensive, rather than defensive. Like shooting fireballs from my hands. That way, you're really open to going either way--hero or villain. I like to have choices.br /pbrhr class="bucketDivider" noshade="noshade" size="1" br
Product Description Deeply sensuous and extraordinarily suspenseful, TWILIGHT captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.Isabella Swan+s move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella+s life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife-between desire and danger.

Escape November 20, 2008 I loved this book. It was the perfect fun easy intriguing book to read before bed. I had trouble putting it down. I agree with other reviewers that if what you want is a bloody Vampire book this is not your book. This is more about the inner struggle between good and evil, and of course about passion and love. My other favorite books are in the Harry Potter Series and East of Eden. Somehow there is a similiar thread. People keep saying this is a YA book. I am not so sure. I think I can identify with Bella and the way she feels about Edward only because I have 35 years and numerous relationships to look back on. I'll also say I am overly educated and I don't feel this book is "beneath me"-it might just appeal more to a certain personality whatever the age and education.
AMAZINGG!!! November 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love these books! They're amazing. You have to read them all, no excuses. One of my friends made me read twilight and I'm officially addicted. You don't exactly have to buy the book because these books are everywhere, and you could just get it from the library, but if you love it like I do- you'll want your own copy to read whenever you want. br /br /TEAM EDWARD :)
This book is more for the romantic than the blood-thirsty! November 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I picked up this book because of the movie trailers. Once I started reading it, I hated to put it down. For me that is the ultimate compliment. If you are looking for a lot of fighting, blood shed and sex, DO NOT buy this book - You will be disappointed. The book even SKIPS OVER the fight scene you see on the movie trailer. (For that I was a little disappointed.) br /br /However, it was written to make the reader feel the characters' love and pain. I must say I certainly did. I guess mostly because in high school I fell deeply in love with a blonde haired, pale-skinned boy. I truely saw fireworks on our first kiss and I felt pain in my heart when we fought or were not together for more than a day. I could relate to Bella in so many ways. I was never graceful or athletic. I was always the smart one who never had much luck with the boys, until the ONE came along. So yes, I believe it is possible to be that crazy and painfully in love with someone, even if (especially if) they are dangerous.br /br /I must admit I feel a little silly for being addicted to this book about high school kids, since I'm a 35 yr old professional mom and all. But at the same time I can still relate to the story because my husband (who was not my high school sweetheart) is a bit dangerous. There is always something SEXY about dangerous men. br /br /Anyway, if you enjoy a good romantic fantasy, I HIGHLY recommend this book. I am about to buy the next in the series.
Terrible, terrible writing, but Meyer knows how to do a plot and do it well. November 20, 2008 Stephenie Meyer, Twilight (Little, Brown, 2005)br /br /Okay, so I finally broke down and tasted the Kool-Aid to see what all the fuss was about. And now that I've read Twilight, I'm still not sure, but it did keep me interested enough to get me to read the second book. The prologue is downright awful, exactly the kind of horrid, overdramatic pap I was expecting, but the book did manage to calm down very quickly after that. It never does, however, manage to rise above the level of conventional paranormal romance, and so I'm still confused as to what all the fuss is about.br /br /If you're one of the seven or eight people on the planet who are still unaware of the plot, here's a quick sketch: Bella leaves Phoenix, AZ, and relocates to a small, wet town in Oregon to live with her father. There she encounters the Cullens, especially Edward, with whom she falls in love at first sight (or close enough to it not to matter). This doesn't change when she finds out the Cullens are vampires, Edward included. Surprisingly, however, she finds that Edward seems to be feeling something of the same. All goes along in the mushy bliss-changing-to-despair-and-back-to-bliss-a-score-of-times-a-day, as teen relationships are wont to do, and so Meyer throws a bad vampire into the mix who also finds himself somewhat enchanted by Bella, but with far darker designs. Cue action-thriller storyline.br /br /Twilight is, if you'll pardon the pun, by-the-book paranormal romance that everyone around me is treating like it's the second coming of Romeo and Juliet. Even those who realize the writing is pedestrian at best (and more usually godawful) are entirely hooked. And, I have to admit, I too dove into the second book just as soon as I finished this one; if nothing else, Meyer does know how to keep the pages turning. Which is pretty impressive when your first book is already doorstop-sized and they just keep getting longer after that. Just don't expect good writing and you may find this an enjoyable trip. *** br /br /
addicting...and excellent for its genre November 20, 2008 ok, i'm not a young adult by any means, but i wanted to see what the hype was all about. and i am so glad i did. i thoroughly enjoyed this story. i am thoroughly addicted. it was an easy, appealing read. br /br /If you want an escape, then get this book. br /br /if you've had any fascination with vampires and their passionate arrogant and extremely sexy appeal, then this will feed that fascination. br /br /If you've ever felt that you were less than ordinary and would like to be sought after and loved by the most beautiful, then you'll relate to Bella. br /br /it was a lot of fun. very enjoyable.i think the more negative reviews came from those who lost sight of what this book is: 1)young adult fiction 2)just something to escape into and let yourself enjoy it.
