God Gave Us Christmas January 6, 2009 Excellent book for my church preschool class. All of the children were glued to the pictures of the polar bears and their animal friends. They also seemed to grasp the concept that God and Santa are different by how it was presented in a simple manner in this book. I would definitely recommend this book for children in preschool and elementary school. I enjoyed the book so much that I will be purchasing the other two books in this series.
Author needs to hire new editor December 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
While the book is a nice one, and the message is a good one, the authors need to fire their editors and hire new ones. br /br /It's far too wordy a story, and very frustrating to read aloud to two small children, and we love reading to our kids.
Meaning of Christmas: Jesus or Santa? December 4, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book does a really great job of acknowledging the true reason we celebrate Christmas - Jesus' birth - while not downplaying any of the other holiday traditions our culture has become accustomed to. It does not say that Santa does not exist (for those fearful parents whose children still "believe") but suggests that Santa is a reminder of attributes that God cares about and wants us all to possess. The author goes further than saying "Christmas is about Jesus being born"; she also talks about who Jesus is and why God sent him to earth. I have a feeling this will become a Christmas Classic at our house - even if only because "mom" likes it!
Wonderful Christmas book December 3, 2008 I bought this book for my six year old boy thinking it would serve two purposes. One, I thought it would bridge the gap between the real meaning of Christmas and Santa Claus. Two, independently of us, my little guy has developed a real fascination with God and Jesus so I thought it would be a nice way to compliment those feelings.br / I was more right than I thought. He absolutely LOVES this book. He has read it every night since I bought it and he sleeps with it under his pillow. It's a great story that is neither bible bouncing nor Santa bashing. I love the way it shows how you can "see" God-very useful for teaching little ones. I highly recommend this to anybody of any age but especially the little ones.
The best Christmas book I've found for children - creative meaningful November 30, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I researched a ton of Christmas books to give as gifts this year. I was looking for something that conveyed the true meaning of Christmas but in a engaging, child-friendly way to supplement the straightforward telling of the birth of Jesus. This is a wonderful story that actually *has* meaning (instead of many childrens christmas books that mentions that there were animals that saw the Baby Jesus, but doesn't really draw out more meaning than that).br /
