Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
"Softly he brushed my cheek, then held my face between his marble hands. 'Be very still,' he whispered, as if I wasn't already frozen. Slowly, never moving his eyes from mine, he leaned toward me. Then abruptly, but very gently, he rested his cold cheek against the hollow at the base of my throat." p As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. In iTwilight/i, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because--he's a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship./pp Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. She begins with a familiar YA premise (the new kid in school), and lulls us into thinking this will be just another realistic young adult novel. Bella has come to the small town of Forks on the gloomy Olympic Peninsula to be with her father. At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to renounce human prey. For Edward's sake they welcome Bella, but when a roving group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst. The precision and delicacy of Meyer's writing lifts this wonderful novel beyond the limitations of the horror genre to a place among the best of YA fiction. (Ages 12 and up) i--Patty Campbell/i /p hr class="bucketDivider" noshade="noshade" size="1"b class="h1" 10 Second Interview: A Few Words with Stephenie Meyer/bbrbr img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/books/promos/a-plus/stephenie.jpg" hspace="4" vspace="4" border="0" align="left" bQ:/b Were you a fan of iBuffy the Vampire Slayer/i? iAngel/i? What are you watching now that those shows are off the air?br bA:/b I have never seen an entire episode of iBuffy/i or iAngel/i. While I was writing iTwilight/i, I let my older sister read along chapter by chapter. She's a huge Buffy fan and she kept trying to get me to watch, but I was afraid it would mess up my vision of the vampire world so I never did.p I don't have a ton of time for TV, and my kids get rowdy when I have on "mommy shows," but I do have a secret fondness for reality shows (the good ones, at least in my opinion). I always TiVo iSurvivor/i, iThe Amazing Race/i, and iAmerica's Next Top Model/i.brbr bQ:/b What inspired you to write iTwilight/i? Is this the beginning of a series? Why write for teens?br bA:/b iTwilight/i was inspired by a very vivid dream, which is fairly faithfully transcribed as chapter thirteen of the book. There are sequels on the way--I'm hard at work editing book two (tentatively titled iNew Moon/i) right now, and book three is waiting in line for its turn.br I didn't mean to write for teens--I didn't mean to write for anyone but myself, so I had an audience of one twenty-nine year old (and later one thirty-one year old when my sister started reading). I think the reason that I ended up with a book for teens is because high school is such a compelling time period--it gives you some of your worst scars and some of your most exhilarating memories. It's a fascinating place: old enough to feel truly adult, old enough to make decisions that affect the rest of your life, old enough to fall in love, yet, at the same time too young (in most cases) to be free to make a lot of those decisions without someone else's approval. There's a lot of scope for a novel in that.brbr bQ:/b What is your favorite vampire story? Fave vampire movie?br bA:/b I guess my favorite vampire story would be iThe Vampire Lestat/i, by Anne Rice, simply because it's one of the only ones I've ever read. I keep meaning to pick up Bram Stoker's iDracula/i, because I get asked this question so often and I should probably start with the classics, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Again, I'm afraid to read other vampire books now, for fear of finding things either too similar, or too different from my own vampire world./pp Ack! I can't even answer the movie question. I can't remember ever seeing a single vampire movie, outside of clips from Bela Lugosi movies on TV. I don't like true horror movies--my favorite scary movies are all Hitchcock's.brbr bQ:/b What other young adult authors do you read?br bA:/b My favorite young adult author is L.M. Montgomery I also enjoy J.K. Rowling (but who doesn't?), and Ann Brashares. As a teen, I skipped straight to adult books (lots of sci-fi and Jane Austen), so I'm rediscovering the world of teen literature now.brbr/p hr class="bucketDivider" noshade="noshade" size="1" p clear="all" span class="h1"strongStephenie Meyer's List of Books You Should Read/strong/span table border="0" cellpadding="4" width="90%" cellspacing="4"p p tr class="tiny" align="center" valign="top" td img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0553609416.01.SWATCHZZ.jpg" border="0"brIAnne of Green Gables/I/tdp td img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0743477111.01.SWATCHZZ.jpg" border="0"brIRomeo and Juliet/I/tdp td img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0345456335.01.SWATCHZZ.jpg" border="0"brIDragonflight/I/td td img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0060935464.01.SWATCHZZ.jpg" border="0"brITo Kill a Mockingbird/I/td p td img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0345348036.01.SWATCHZZ.jpg" border="0"brIThe Princess Bride/I/td p /tr /tablebr See more recommendations from Stephenie Meyerbr/p hr class="bucketDivider" noshade="noshade" size="1" p clear="all"brspan class="h1"strongQA with Stephanie Meyer/strong/spanbr /pp clear="left"bQ:/b What book has had the most significant impact on your life?brbA:/b The book with the most significant impact on my life is iThe Book of Mormon/i. The book with the most significant impact on my life as a writer is probably iSpeaker for the Dead/i, by Orson Scott Card, with iRebecca/i by Daphne du Maurier coming in as a close second.brbrbQ:/b You are stranded on a desert island with only one book, one CD, and one DVD--what are they?brbA:/b The CD is easy: iAbsolution/i by Muse, hands down. It's harder to give myself just one movie, but the one I watch most frequently is iSense and Sensibility/i--the one with the screenplay by Emma Thompson. One book is impossible. I'd have to have iPride and Prejudice/i, but I couldn't live without something by Orson Scott Card and a nice, thick Maeve Binchy, too.brbrbQ:/b What is the worst lie you've ever told?brbA:/b My lies are all very, very boring: "No, you really look great in hot pink!" "My children only watch one hour of TV a day." "I didn't eat the last Swiss Cake Roll--it must have been one of the kids." That's the best I've got.brbrbQ:/b Describe the perfect writing environment.brbA:/b It's late at night and the house is silent, but I'm still (miraculously) full of energy. I have my headphones in and I'm listened to a mix of Muse, Coldplay, Travis, My Chemical Romance, and The All-American Rejects. Beside me is a fabulous, and yet mysteriously low in calorie, cheesecake....brbrbQ:/b If you could write your own epitaph, what would it say?brbA:/b I'd like it to say that I really tried at the important things. I was never perfect at any of them, but I honestly tried to be a great mom, a loving wife, a good daughter, and a true friend. Under that, I'd want a list of my favorite iSimpsons/i quotes.brbrbQ:/b Who is the one person living or dead that you would like to have dinner with?brbA:/b I'd love to have a chance to talk to Orson Scott Card--I have a million questions for him. Mostly things like, "How do you come up with this stuff?!" But, if he wasn't available, I'd settle for Matthew Bellamy (lead singer of Muse).brbrbQ:/b If you could have one superpower, what would it be?brbA:/b I'd want something offensive, rather than defensive. Like shooting fireballs from my hands. That way, you're really open to going either way--hero or villain. I like to have choices.br /pbrhr class="bucketDivider" noshade="noshade" size="1" br

Product Description
Deeply sensuous and extraordinarily suspenseful, TWILIGHT captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.Isabella Swan+s move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella+s life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife-between desire and danger.

1 out of 5 stars Don't Bother   January 9, 2009
I like almost every book I read, but I got so sick trying to read this book I literally threw it across the room. it was the part where after like 2 weeks of knowing each other they're talking about home much they love each other and edward talks about how much he wants to eat her. Edward is a creep in every way, vampire or not. he watches her, listens to her sleep-talk, tells her he wants to suck her blood, stalks her, reads her friends minds, and brings her into the woods alone. The stupidest part, though, is that she believes he is a vampire and doesn't even consider he could be a bad person because he is gorgeous. Um, wake up Bella, love isn't about how hot the guy is. And letting him sleep over? Really? That is asking to become the next girl on the news for a victim of sexual harrasment. The book is so slow and the setting is just weird. A green place called forks. I tried to, but I really don't see why people love this book so much. The characters are too fake and so is the naseating dialogue. and whoever her editor is should go get another job because since all the books are already out once people finish thjem theyre just forgotten. there is nowhere else for twilight to go. i suggest you don't buy this book and save a tree iunstead.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite series of Books!   January 9, 2009
Love this book. I read a lot and this series is now my favorite series!

3 out of 5 stars Avid Reader   January 9, 2009
I'm currently in the middle of reading Twilight having recieved this book and the second in the series as a Christmas gift. I don't read young adult fiction as I am 45+ but decided to give this a try as I have always found vampire-focused stories interesting. Who doesn't know about Dracula? I've been reading through a lot of the reviews which are a mix of both negative and positive. Granted this is not a Pulitzer Prize winner in scope or in quality, and critics should keep the target demographic in mind, but the story does manage to hold your attention...good entertainment value -- which is the purpose of fiction writing in general. If you're looking for writing that will make you think or that has some social relevance try A Thousand Splendid Suns, for example.

1 out of 5 stars I tried!   January 9, 2009
I tried to enjoy this book, I really did. When I didn't, I read the second book to see if the story would get a little more involved and in-depth. It doesn't. How much ridiculous teen angst can be packed into one story? "Oh, I love you but I can't be with you!" Oh, I think I may vomit. br /br /While Meyers adds some new ideas to vampire mythology, she isn't doing anything for the teenage brains this book is targeted at. A laundry list of an average teenage life is not going to captivate many readers, and the constant pull and tug of the protagonist's relationship with Edward (the weirdly obsessed vampire) is frankly annoying. If I was a friend of Bella Swan's I would have to slap her to her senses.

5 out of 5 stars Prepare to be DAZZLED!   January 9, 2009
I could go on forever about this book! It all started when the author Stephanie Myer had a dream about a vampire who was in love with a simple girl, but they couldnt be together because he wanted to drink her blood. That one dream turned into this MASSIVE phenomenon which is now Twilight. If you havent seen the movie, GO SEE IT! You will not regret it. I've seen it more than once and loved it each time just as much as the last. Twilight is the first of the series of four books by Myer. br /br /Its a love story about a girl, Bella, who moves to a new school and ends up being intrigued by the mysterious and confusing Edward who turns out to be a 107 year old vampire. He and his family are good vampires, but Edward is drawn to Bellas scent and has to fight the urge he has kill her whilst at the same time, falling in love with her.br /br /Its an amazing love story.. i would say the best ive read so far. I read all four in less than two weeks- i couldnt put them down. br /br /Buy this book and read the first couple of chapters-- you'll see what the big deal is about! People everywhere are going crazy over Twilight, and if you havent read the book you are MISSING OUT!br /br /Girls will fall in love with Edwards character, and guys.. well, theres an action packed vampire baseball game and heaps of action towards the end that you will just love.br /br /Its fantastic!
