 A real thriller... December 26, 2008

I have been a fan of Ted Dekker's for a long time. My first books were the Circle Trilogy. After those, I read Blink... After that, I just grabbed anything he ever wrote. Obsession was a great book; however, listening to it on CD was a great experience. I am on the road alot, so listening to books works out well for me. Some books of his are easy to listen to, but better to read. Anyway, over the years of Mr Dekkers writing I seem to have noticed a real draw towards the "creepy, scary, supernatural, dark side" coming out, and I wasn't positive I liked the change. But I couldn't stay away because I know the heart of this writer. There is always something true and good and a message that he is trying to get out. Adam (especially the cover of the book) looked like about as scary as you could get...however, I read it, and literally could not put it down. It was totally an adventure into another place and person and situation than I've ever been before. Ted Dekker always takes you where you've never been before, and stretches your imagination to the enth degree. Satanic powers are real and that is what makes this book so intense. The battle rages in a demention that we cannot see with our eyes (most of the time), and I do believe we would be much more careful as Christians and believers, if we truly saw the enemy at work in that other realm. Mr Dekker, you truly have a gift.

Before it came out, there were advanced copy readers that said this book kept them up all night, afraid to even have the light off. While I can't say it scared, I can definitely say Ted did a real good job of creeping me out with all the imagery of a demon trying posess an FBI agent trying to save his wife when he comes back to life. Can't wait for the movie to come out!
 My first Dekker book September 20, 2008
This is a fiction thriller, with a Christian message. I enjoyed the fast pass and mystery of this book. It is an easy read, yet Dekker's style of writing doesn't quite flow to my taste, and seems to be overly forced at times. br /br / br /

I had seen Ted Dekker's books in the store and library many times but had never gotten around to reading one. I had heard only good things about his writing, but after reading this I'm wondering why. The description of the book's story line grabbed my attention, but I was sorely diappointed in the story itself. I thought the story turned out to be very predictable. The dialog was stilted and wooden and seemed more like something a first time author would write rather than a seasoned author. I felt the ending was a great disappointment as the whole book seemed to leading up to some great climax, but it was almost like the author just got tired of the story himself and said, "Okay, this is the end." While I was hoping to find another author I would enjoy, I think I'll pass on anmore of Mr. Dekker's books.

ADAM is my first book by Ted Dekker. It is a great read! It keeps your attention throughout and the twist is great.
