Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
pThis title is a step above the usual election books, both in content and entertainment value. Six children take turns explaining the election process as if they were running for president. They discuss their decision to run, campaigning, primaries and conventions, debating, being interviewed, meeting the public, voting, and being sworn in on Inauguration Day. Stier does a good job of explaining election details, both in an introductory note about electoral votes and in the text itself....The author adds flavor by providing humorous examples, such as the need to smile despite indigestion....The lively cartoons cheerfully clarify the action and reinforce the concepts. Libraries will want this kid-friendly title.iSchool Library Journal/ibrbrpChildren will come away with a better understanding of the complex election-process, and, just maybe, an enduring respect for it. iBooklist/ibrbrbr

5 out of 5 stars It was awesome   January 2, 2009
If I Ran For President was awesome, my 8 year old enjoyed this book. He read it in one day he could not put this book down. It explained the rules of the presidential campaign to the fullest, and each illustration gave wonderful understanding. Thank you Catherine Stier and Lynne Avril

5 out of 5 stars Great for primary students!   November 29, 2008
This book was very helpful in teaching first graders about the election process. It explains so much in a breif and entertaining way that holds the attention of our young listeners. I liked the way it explained the election and voting process using accurate vocabulary without being overly wordy or boring. This book was a great find during an election year!

5 out of 5 stars Fun and educational for children AND adults!   November 16, 2008

If I Ran for President summarizes a presidential candidates journey from dreaming about being president to Inauguration Day. The simple book is clear, understandable, and "sneaks" big ideas and concepts into the story. I used this book to teach 1st-3rd-graders about the presidential candidacy process during the 2008 Presidential race. By the time I was done reading the book, I had several Presdidential hopefuls already planning their run for the White House!

4 out of 5 stars If I ran for president   November 16, 2008
The shipping took forever even though I signed up for 2 day delivery. The book was in great shape.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome introduction to the election process for children   October 29, 2008
Ben is a young genius, of sorts, and summarizes what he would do if he ran for president. Ben goes over hard decisions, former presidents, speeches, and campaigning. Then the books shifts into other children wanting to run for president including Claire and Marco. Overall, I strongly believe this book should be introduced to promote civics in children's lives. Parents and Teachers will find this book to be a great teaching tool for children to understand the sometimes hard to understand election process.
