Unique pop-up book November 21, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have purchased this author's books before. The cutouts are amazing and truly unique. Children are fascinated by the size and the intricasy of the cutouts. Nice addition to any book collection.
Glittering, glowing walk in a white winter wonderland...with pop ups! November 19, 2008 This is another wonderful Sabuda pop up you are sure to enjoy. The book contains six two-page spreads, each with a large and awesome pop up. Five spreads also have a partial-page flap that reveals a second pop up. The last spread, instead of a flap, has a unique surprise.br /br /The story is a bit simple, but it works for me. It is about taking a walk in the quiet winter world and seeing all the activity that is happening under the blanket of snow. It is the only area I can see anyone finding fault, perhaps wanting a more engrossing storyline to interest kids. But I think they will be entertained by the pop ups and talk about their own winter walks. br /br /The book overall is done in outdoor wintry colors, white, blue, and purple with green and brown plant life. The pages and cover also have glittering snow (with texture) and silvery water. The pop ups are mostly white. The pop ups are really fabulous and convey the surprise and awe you might have if you were the one taking the walk and seeing these things. br /br /The pop ups open and close with relative ease. I sometimes feel a deer catching as I carefully close one spread, but it is aligned correctly and requires more force closing it or, on the careful side, a slight poke to the deer. br /br /For families, I see this as a book that gets tucked away in holiday boxes. It can be brought out as a special treat. Young kids will continue to enjoy it when they are older because it is a holiday tradition. This book will also appeal to pop-up collectors. br /br /*SPOILER ALERT* DESCRIPTION OF POP UPSbr /-Flying snowy owl, mice in a treebr /-Foxes in a cave, leaping rabbitbr /-Bear hunting in stream near waterfall, fish leaping from waterbr /-Deer frolicking, squirrels collection nutsbr /-Moose (turkey hiding in fallen tree), beavers br /-FINALE-Glowing Christmas lights (when you pull the tab) on a little cottage surrounded by trees and most of the animals spied on the walk
Heirloom Quality Book! October 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I stumbled on this book while reading a booklist on Amazon, and purchased it the same day. I collect pop up books, and this one is top notch! the binding and cover are sturdy and beautiful, and the pop ups inside are ornate. My kids and I love it, and it's on the shelf with all of the best children's collectible books!
OK, but can be damaged June 8, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really liked the book, it is beautiful, but I ordered several books and many of them were damaged. Amazon was really good about exchanges, but it was still a pain. If you buy one, check it carefully for defects.
