5 out of 5 stars Beatiful book.   December 24, 2008
Beautiful book but very delicate. Good for older child who can be careful with it and appreciate the detail.

This is a beautiful book. It is viewable from all sides and is marvelous for helping children (andadults) learn the story behind the ballet.

This is a wonderfully made pop up book. I definately was not expecting so much detail. Very beautiful.

Wonderful colors, a nicely told story and the clever and beautiful use of varied materials in the creation of this book make it a real winner. Patricia Fry will now join Sabuda and Reinhardt as a favorite pop-up book artist. She manages to simply convey the story of the Nutcracker, while giving each page a WOW! with the intricacy of the paper engineering. The pages are full of characters that would be familiar to anyone who has seen the ballet - even exotic dancers, a full and beautiful Christmas tree, and a castle with spun sugar turrets. There are several fully dimensional figures, making it possible to enjoy the pages from every angle. In fact, one might miss something if it isn't turned every which way while enjoying each page! I especially appreciated that there are no "glitches" in getting the pop-ups to open and then collapse as the pages are turned. Children would love this book with adult supervision, as the constructions seem to be exceptionally sturdy for a book of this type. It is a truly lovely book, and one to treasure!
