Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
On October 5, 1982, Laurie Skreslet became the 131st person to reach the peak of Mount Everest. His lifelong dream of scaling the world's tallest mountain had become a reality, but it was an achievement that came with a heavy price. Laurie and his expedition faced hidden crevasses, blinding snowstorms, horrible altitude sickness and deadly avalanches that claimed the lives of team members throughout the ascent. In this exciting true-life adventure, Laurie shares intimate details from the climb itself, including the terrifying moment when he almost plunged to an icy death. A true hero, Laurie proves that with a bit of courage, a little faith and a lot of teamwork, an ordinary person can accomplish extraordinary things.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars My kids were fascinated by this story   May 4, 2008
The author tells his story of being the first Canadian to climb Mt. Everest. He talks a lot about his determination and will to do more than his best, and ends the book with a very positive message. My 6-yr-old son is really into Mt. Everest, so we bought this for a birthday present. Both he and his 8-yr-old sister (who is sick of hearing her brother talk endlessly about Mt. Everest) were totally engrossed in Laurie's story. br /br /The climb did result in four deaths, so be forewarned when reading this with younger children.br /br /
