a great blend of myth and magic November 13, 2008 This book is about twins Sophie and Josh Newman and there adventures with the immortal Nicholas Flamel after seeing him duel the evil magian John Dee. It is a great book especially for fans of myths and legends
Good fantasy reading October 31, 2008 This book was amazing...a very quick read, and holds your interest. Would highly recommend if you're looking for something in the Harry Potter genre.
Easy to read, explore imagination. October 9, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Interesting story. I picked it up in the library and read it from cover to cover. It reminds me of Harry Potter.
Flat characters.... September 25, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
The ideas behind the story for this book are interesting, unfortunately, the writing is not. I found the characters flat and one dimensional. I honestly found it difficult to care what, if anything, happened to them. I also found the writing style repetitive and overly dramatic. The book just couldn't keep my attention.. and with a story based on magic, elder races, immortal men and a fight for humanity.. it should have.br /br /Such a shame.
Excellent book September 25, 2008 I wasn't sure what to expect with this book other than magic and adventure. On the first page I was hooked. For me a book has to start good and stay good all the way through, this did that. I immediatley loved Josh and Sophie and their closeness thoughout this book his heartwarming. I can't say I've loved Nicholas Flamel, he's a very strong character (hence it's his story) but he's not the one I found myself wanting to follow. Scatty is great, the perfect warrior. Dee is the perfect bad guy, he's cunning, sly, and very bad. I loved how this book took our modern age, mixed it with magic and mythology. A true page turner that does leave you hanging. After finishing this book you will have to read the next book. I myself cannot wait to read the next installment. Truly a book I'll keep on my bookshelf to be read again, the adventure is that good, for adults and children.
